Bittersweet Leaf

Close on a chewed up purple and green leaf of a Bittersweet plant. Native to Europe and Asia, this vine is considered invasive and poisonous (except to birds). Also called Woody Nightshade, its scientific name, Solanum dulcamara indicates it is a species in the potato genus solanum.

Petunia in the Sun
Joe-Pye Weed

Native to Eastern North America, Joe-Pye weed – Eutrochium purpureum – grows everywhere in Southern Ontario. Named after an Indian healer from New England, Joe Pye used this plant to treat various ailments leading to people naming it after him. This is a view at Medway Creek where it grows profusely.
