Totem Pole

Totem Pole

Close on the top of a totem pole carved by well known Muskoka carver Wayne Hill, whose studio is located on Bethune Road just north of Gravenhurst. Although found in other parts of the world, Totem Poles in Canada originate with the indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest. They are monumental sculptures carved from large trees that can carry a wide variety of meanings including: legends, events, cultural expressions and artistic interpretations.
