Year of the Dragon

Year of the Dragon

The year of the Water Dragon starts today. The dragon is the most auspicious of all the animal signs. It is a symbol of good fortune and intense power. In the East, the Dragon is regarded as a divine beast - the reverse of the malicious monster that Westerners felt necessary to find and slay. This photo is of a beautifully carved ancient ash tree my friends have that succumbed to the dreaded Emerald Ash Borer, an epidemic that has been killing trees in Ontario for the past several years. The impressive carving was done by artist Robbin Wenzoski.
