Wild Lettuce

Wild Lettuce

Another image from the archives of a wild flower (weed)  that is in full bloom during July. Wild Lettuce or Lactuca virosa  was used by 19th Century physicians when opium was unavailable. Used throughout history as a sleep aid, the leaves of this plant have many sedating and pain killing properties.

  1. Oh yes, I like that too, Sheila! You’ve got that sharp flower right on a visual strongpoint, and then having the other blooms in various states of out of focusness (out of focusness?????!), and with the wonderful backdrop – tremendous image! Adrian
