The sugar maple – Acer saccharrum – is an iconic Canadian symbol. Maple syrup is produced from them, our flag features a sugar maple leaf, and they turn a beautiful colour in fall.
Versatility is a virtue, I think, and this is one versatile — and beautiful — tree. I grew up with maples, and they’re still the iconic symbol of fall for me.
