The mallard flocks have shown up here in the past couple of weeks, flying in on strong north winds. It’s always wonderful to see them — and hear them, too. They’re the most vocal of the ducks I know, keeping up a constant chatter when they’re just hanging out.
Oh, yes. They fuss and fight and mate, and raise their babies. Some stay all year round, but we have some pretty large migratory flocks: not just mallard, but widgeons, pintails, teal, and so on.
