Buttonbush Colour

A shrub native to Eastern and Southern North America, Cephalanthus occidentalis is a species of plant in the coffee family, Rubiaceae. Waterfowl and other birds love to eat the seeds.

  1. This is one of my favorite plants. I first met it in Arkansas, when the seeds were bright cranberry red and almost looked jelly-like. This “in process” photo of them ripening is gorgeous.
