Boyce Moto Meter

Boyce Moto Meter

Patented in 1912, the Boyce Moto Meter was a thermometer that screwed into the radiator cap and read the engine's vapor temperature. Accessories such as these eagle wings were available and many car companies had special emblems custom made. Boyce, whose tag line was "Boyce Moto Meter Your Car Deserves One," pretty much cornered the market until the late 1920s when gauges were dashboard mounted and beautiful hood ornaments became the rage.

Greyhound Hood Ornament

In the 1930s, Ford used this elegant greyhound as its cars' hood ornament. I love taking detail photos such as hood ornaments and early radiator caps. They are small artistic works. I was lucky here that a blue tent in the background could double as a blue sky effect.
