Winter Ferns

A few weeks ago I went for a walk at a rather snowy Civic Gardens and this large patch of dried fern fronds caught my eye. I look forward to visiting again once the ferns are big and green.

Six fern fronds create a symmetric design in the powder snow. My dog Luke loves to follow me around when I’m taking photos in the backyard which means shoot fast if you see something because within seconds of me taking this image, he had trampled and peed on it… fleeting imagery. 🙂

Layers of Fern

I love ferns – they are so delicate, green and lacy and they like my shady garden – well that is when we don’t have such a long, dry, hot spell. They are calling for continued heat this week so I better make sure I water them so they can look lovely right into the fall.
