A bright June view at Westminster Ponds. Pretty, but considered a noxious weed here in Ontario, the yellow perennial sow thistle is the bane of many farmers.

Petite Daffodil

Close on a pretty little bloom no bigger than an inch across. Two of the bulbs I planted last fall turned out to be this mini variety.

I think this pretty bloom is a Tulipa tarda. It thrives in somewhat of a naturalized state in my garden.

It’s been a good spring for the daffodils although they’re not keen on the heat we’ve had. I certainly am.

I learned that the brown, dried part of a daffodil is called the spathe.
